Sentara Heart Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia is hiring a Registered Nurse - Circulator for the Cardiac Operating Room (OR) Team!
Will consider RN with: Operating room experience (General or Cardiac), a RN with 1-2 years ICU experience, or 2 years cardiac specialty experience.
This position is full time Day shift.
There will be an on call requirement and a once a month weekend call required. Candidate must live within 30 minutes of the hospital for call purposes.
Department Overview:
We are made up of five operating rooms with one being a hybrid OR. We handle
8+ OR cases daily.
Nurses work with a multi-disciplinary team of Cardio-thoracic Surgeons, OR attendant, Surgical Techs, Surgical Assistants, Perfusionists, Anesthesiologists, Cardiovascular Technologists, and Physician Assistants.
The cardiovascular operating room nurse works as part of the surgical services and operating room teams that treat open-heart (cardiovascular) patients.
- Prepares OR Room, ensures equipment and medications are available for the operating room team
- Reviews patient’s chart
- Assesses patient upon admission and through procedure
- Prep and positions patient in OR
- Administers medication, monitor vital signs during procedure
- Documents information
- Provides a call report to the ICU floor nurse after the surgical procedure

Cardiac Surgical Tech will work with as a part of a multi-disciplinary team of Cardio-thoracic Surgeons, Registered Nurses, Surgical Assistants, Perfusionists, Anesthesiologists, Cardiovascular Technologists, and Physician Assistants that perform open heart and thoracic surgical procedures.
Cardiac Surgical Tech will prepare the operating room for procedure. Assists with pre-operative care and patient transport.
Monitors patients’ EKG and invasive hemodynamic pressures during cardiac and general surgical procedures.
Performs cardiac outputs, special invasive pressures, as well as various clinical pathological tests, such as blood gas analysis, electrolytes, blood clotting times, etc
Is proficient in the performance of intra-aortic balloon pumping, and intraoperative autologous transfusion.
Performs basic troubleshooting and maintenance on equipment specific to the department.
Provides didactic and clerical training to employees and CVT students. Utilizes the Gravitational platelet system.
