Experience:  Minimum of one year IMCU experience required.

Unit Description:
20 Bed cardiac surgical ICU
Nurses handle 1-2 patients on this unit based on acuity level.
Nurses provide service to any patients that have undergone open heart surgeries such as CABG, Valve repair or replacement, aneurysm repair, TAVR, ablations, Heart Transplantation, and Mechanical Circulatory Support devices including the Total Artificial Heart and Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO), and various lung surgeries.
Nurses manage critically ill patients that require intensive hemodynamic monitoring, mechanical ventilation, multiple drug infusions, IABP therapy and CRRT.

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, located in Norfolk, Virginia is a Magnet status facility, academic teaching hospital, and home of the Sentara Heart Hospital. 
Norfolk General was the first Hospital to Pioneer eICU in the nation and it began operations in 2000.
 
Our Electronic Intensive Care Unit (eICU) is a form of telemedicine that uses state of the art technology to provide an additional layer of critical care service.  The goal of the E-ICU (tele-ICU) is to reduce mortality, length of stay and prevent complications by providing an additional layer of monitoring for the patients. This is accomplished by utilizing advanced telecommunications technology.  The Sentara eICU staff collaborates with the bedside ICU team to proactively intervene to carry out the Sentara Commitments to Always Work Together as a Team to Provide Our Patients Quality Healthcare and Always Keep You Safe.  
     
If you enjoy ICU level of care, have excellent critical thinking skills, want to be a part of a collaborative team, understands technology & navigating through systems, and have 3+ years of critical care nursing experience then this may be an opportunity to join the e-ICU team.  
 
e-ICU RN provides remote nursing care acting as an advocate, guide, and resource for the bedside ICU RN. 
 
Collaborates with the eMD to provide telemedicine care to a diverse population of critically ill adults across multiple ICUs at various Sentara hospitals.
 
The eMDs and eRNs follow patients in the Monitored Census utilizing Epic Patient Monitoring (EPM).  Video conferencing via the eICU cameras allows direct communication with the patients, bedside team, other members of the healthcare team and patients’ families at the patient’s bedside.  
 
The eRNs maintain daily logs with their monitoring assignments and APACHE assignments.
 
RN License, BLS, ACLS required.   CCRN certification preferred.

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital’s Special Care Nursery, which is a Level 3 NICU is looking for passionate nurses that would like to join our team and provide quality care to our babies that aren’t able to go home with their Mother at discharge.
 
The Special Care Nursery is a 47 bed NICU, that provides special care to babies born as early as 28 weeks and as small as 800g.  Our nurses strive to provide family-centered care by collaborating  not only with the families but with Neonatologist, Respiratory Therapists, Occupational Therapy, and Lactation consultants among the few. We advocate for our patients and families throughout their stay, continuously providing education and support.
 
Shift:  Full Time Nights, working three twelve hour shifts per week and every 3rd weekend

The Labor & Delivery Department at Sentara Norfolk General is a high-volume maternity unit dedicated to complicated high-risk deliveries, but also see women who are having problem free childbirth deliveries.   Labor and Delivery Unit is comprised of eleven private birthing rooms, three triage rooms, two dedicated operating rooms for our C-section deliveries and three PACUs for after deliver care.   Our Registered Nurses are successfully cross trained to work in all these areas.  

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is a teaching facility that shares the medical center with the Jones Institute and Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters.  Jones Institute - Eastern Virginia Medical School is just one block from the hospital and it is one of the world's leading centers for infertility treatment work.  Resident physicians from the Jones Institute support our Birthing Center. Sentara Heart Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia is hiring a Registered Nurse - Circulator for the Cardiac Operating Room (OR) Team!

Will consider RN with: Operating room experience (General or Cardiac), a RN with 1-2 years ICU experience or 2 years cardiac specialty experience.
 
This position is full time Day shift.  

There will be an on call requirement and a once a month weekend call required.  Candidate must live within 30 minutes of the hospital for call purposes.
 
Department Overview:
We are made up of five operating rooms with one being a hybrid OR.  We handle
8+ OR cases daily.

Nurses work with a multi-disciplinary team of Cardio-thoracic Surgeons, OR attendant, Surgical Techs, Surgical Assistants, Perfusionists, Anesthesiologists, Cardiovascular Technologists, and Physician Assistants.
  
The cardiovascular operating room nurse works as part of the surgical services and operating room teams that treat open-heart (cardiovascular) patients.

  • Prepares OR Room, ensures equipment and medications are available for the operating room team
  • Reviews patient’s chart
  • Assesses patient upon admission and through procedure
  • Prep and positions patient in OR
  • Administers medication, monitor vital signs during procedure
  • Documents information
  • Provides a call report to the ICU floor nurse after the surgical procedure
  • Prepares OR for the next case

The Antepartum Unit at Sentara Norfolk General is a specialty unit dedicated to complicated high-risk pregnancies.   Sentara Norfolk General’s Antepartum Unit is a 15-bed specialty unit.  Our nurses assist in the management of care of high-risk obstetrical patients, with the interpretation of electronic fetal monitoring strips, and continuously assess for possible patient complications.  The Antepartum Unit provides prenatal care to patients with diabetes, pre-term labor, pre-term rupture of membranes, pre-eclampsia, addictions, mental health issues, abnormal bleeding, and many other medical and obstetrical complications.  Patients can be with the Antepartum team for days, weeks, and even months and we help to provide the high-risk care necessary to support their childbirth journey.

The Sentara Norfolk General Mother-Baby Unit is a 21-bed unit.  Our Nurses assess, ensure that proper healing is occurring, and provides self-care education to our new Moms during the post-partum stay.   The unit encourage the new Mom to have rooming with their new baby.  The Mom-Baby Nurse sees that the newborn is assessed, cleaned, feed, swaddled, and educates the new Mom on proper infant care.
